Piri Reis University is a new and independent university primarily focusing on marine and maritime related programmes of education and research with students mainly between the ages of 18-22. The University has been officially been approved by the National Government and educational authorities and will commence the recruitment of students and staff.
Piri Reis Maritime University will be a career-oriented institution that strives to be the globally recognised leader in providing the highest quality maritime, engineering, business and science education and training with facilities and laboratories that are at the leading edge of technological as well as vocational innovation. The new University will be the centre of excellence for Marine and Maritime subject areas.
The University would endeavour to create an environment that stimulates intellectual curiosity, fosters professional competence, encourages rigorous self-discipline and develops leadership potential through both curricular and extra curricular education and training.

Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV) was established as a charitable trust in Istanbul in 1993 by the shipping community. The main aim of TUDEV is to raise the standard of Turkish shipping industry to world-class. This aim is achieved through the provision of high quality education and training at its Maritime Education Centre and now through the establishment of its new university, Piri Reis University, so that the Turkish and International shipping industry is provided with high calibre personnel for its efficient and effective operations and management.
Centre for Factories of the Future (CFF) and TUDEV formed a partnership called MarEdu, who are a leading body in maritime education and research instigating numerous prestigious EU projects. Further details can be found at www.maredu.co.uk
Piri Reis University intends to support MarEdu and become involved in existing and new partnerships. The successful candidates will become a member of the MarTEL project. MarTEL is a major European funded project to develop standards for Maritime English.
